July 21 was our first harvest day of the 2012 season. We want to thank the 68 families that came by to fill their buckets and celebrate the Grand Opening with us. Over the last year a lot of hard work has gone into the fields and the setting up this business. Harley has done an amazing job nurturing the bushes as they transition from conventional to organic. The hours are countless in what he’s spent on pruning, composting, fertilizing and installing irrigation. Susan has stayed up late many nights and gotten up earlier than she ever knew she could creating all the promotion, working on sales strategies and art directing the new appearance of the farm. The interns, Yadira, Greg and Janelle have been an enormous help with everything from weeding and digging to sign painting and facebook updating. I think all of us felt a great sense of satisfaction today as we posted our first dollar above the menu board. Tomorrow a tip jar is going up to augment the intern stipends. We couldn’t do it without their help and great attitudes. Also a special shout out also to James and Jessica of the Lucky Dumpster in Edison whose talent can be seen in every direction you look at Bow Hill Blueberries.
