Bacon-Blueberry Dog Biscuit
Many dog biscuit recipes contain ingredients that are not good for dogs–these ones are! Bow Hill Organic Heirloom Blueberry Powder provides more than a daily dose of antioxidants for our furry friends. Flax seeds provide healthy omega-3 oils that help Fido’s coat gleam. Oats are a fantastic alternative to wheat flour. Treat your pup with the best and make them homemade dog biscuits– they will love them!
Yield: 30 biscuits | Prep: 30 minutes | Active Bake: 1 hour
INGREDIENTS
2 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
¾ cup Organic Heirloom Blueberry Powder
½ cup flax seeds, ground
2 tablespoon bacon fat, olive oil or flaxseed oil
2 eggs or ½ cup applesauce
½ cup chicken or vegetable stock
DIRECTIONS
Heat oven to 325°F.
In a food processor, pulse 2 cups of the oats until they are a coarse flour. Grind the flax seed in a coffee grinder (or buy pre-ground). Set aside ½ cup of oat flour.
Combine 1 ½ cups oat flour and remaining ½ cup of whole oats, blueberry powder, and flax meal. Stir in the bacon fat, eggs, and chicken stock until a sturdy dough forms.
Generously sprinkle half the leftover oat flour on a countertop and use another fourth of it for the rolling pin (reapplying as needed). Roll the dough ½” thick and cut into your desired shapes. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat (or nothing at all). After placing on the baking sheet, brush each shape with chicken stock or water.
Bake 1 hour. Turn oven off and leave the biscuits in the oven with the door closed for another hour to completely dry out. Store in an airtight container until Fido has finished them off!
